Starting a Charter School

The Governor John Engler Center for Charter Schools (Center) at CMU is interested in charter applicants that articulate a promising vision, propose a sound business plan, outline a strong educational program and demonstrate the ability to implement a high-quality school. Additionally, the application process is designed to identify and promote applicants that have the vision and ability to implement schools that will be considered among the "best of the best" and become cornerstone institutions in their communities. Successful applicants will be expected to open their doors on the first day of school as if they have been in operation for three years.

Applications are accepted at any time throughout the year. To begin your application, click the button below and submit your completed charter application in PDF format to the Center at CharterApplication@TheCenterForCharters.org. If you have any questions please contact Corey Northrop at 989-774-2100 or via email.

Thank you for your interest in opening a charter public school with Central Michigan University to provide quality educational choices for Michigan's children.
